Pipes, Hoses and Cables
Pipes, hoses and cables are the technologies used to transport and deliver energy and as such among the most important parts of the energy infrastructure.
Today pipes, cables and hoses must be designed with energy efficiency in mind. Both to be environmentally sound and to be cost effective.
The two main challenges concerning pipes, hoses and cables are:
- not loosing energy to the surroundings during transportation
- not loosing energy internally due to resistance
Denmark is home to the leading producer of preinsulated pipes and also to one of the World's leading producers of insulation materials used in and around hoses and pipes. Some of the leading companies in low resistance materials are also located in Denmark.
Pipes and hoses are used extensively in district heating and increasingly also in district cooling. Energy efficient pipes make long distance transport of heat more viable. This reduces the need for local power plants and a better and more environmentally friendly energy infrastructure can be achieved.
