Energy Systems and Planning
Flexible and intelligent energy systems must be developed, that are able to incorporate an increasing amount of, often fluctuating, renewable energy sources, if we are to meet the goals set for reducing CO2 emissions as well as to ensure security of supply in the future.
Increased energy prices due to taxation and resource scarcity is demanding foresight and the will to change - both at the national level and the level of companies and even households. The energy systems of tomorrow are being planned today and relevant expertise is sought after in a very complex and constantly changing field.
Whether nations are laying down national energy strategies for their energy systems or industries are seeking out reliable energy infrastructures, the careful consideration of actual needs and goals is necessary to reach an acceptable solution.
Denmark has one of the most diverse and yet integrated energy systems anywhere in the world, where no single energy technology has come to dominate. There is a long tradition for the early adoption of renewable energy sources and the integration of green technologies into the existing grid.
Danish companies have long survived in this evolving landscape composed of many different energy systems, and they have accumulated the experience necessary to navigate those difficult conditions.
Did you know that:
- In 2007, the Danish electricity companies in cooperation with businesses and electricity customers implemented energy savings of 1.87 Petajoule, corresponding to the annual electricity consumption of 123,217 detached single familiy homes.
- 27% of electricity produced in Denmark comes from renewable sources of energy such as wind turbines and biogas plants.
- Denmark is the global leader when it comes to efficient power plants with co-production of electrical power and heating. Fuel utilization rates often reach more than 90%.
