DONG Energy is involved in a project in which, within a few years, Danish citizens are able to replace their conventional cars with electric cars. The electric car batteries will be charged with power from renewable energy sources such as wind power. By introducing the electric car, the CO2 emission and the noise generated from private cars will be reduced significantly.

Is it possible to store wind power?
For the electric car to become a reality, it is vital that we are able to store power at the best possible time, e.g. when the winds are strong, and be able to use it again, when it’s calm. DONG Energy is developing an intelligent system ensuring that reliable power is available irrespective of the weather. Today we cannot store generated power. Power is generated and consumed simultaneously. Fortunately, the concept behind the electric car forces us to find methods to store wind power and to make the power consumption more flexible – and this will lead to a significant reduction of CO2 to the benefit of our climate.
