Sewage Treatment Plant East
Sewage Treatment Plant East is an advanced mechanical-biological-chemical sewage treatment plant. It cleans wastewater from households and industries in the east of Aalborg and from a number of surrounding towns from Tylstrup in the north to Terndrup in the south.
The sewage treatment plant was built in 1975 as a biological plant, and was upgraded in 1989 to enable it to remove the nutrients nitrogen and phosphor. In 2000 the plant was further enhanced with a sludge drying plant.
Technical Specifications
Facts and figures:
Capacity:
- 100,000 PE
- 20,000 m3/day
Effectiveness of treatment:
Organic matter (BI5): 98.6%
Nitrogen: 88.7%
Phosphor: 95.1%
The Sewage Utility Company utilises the organic matter in the wastewater to produce biogas, which is then used in a sludge drying plant. The surplus heat generated from this plant is supplied to the district heating network to the extent that it is not used to heat the sewage treatment plant’s own buildings and processing tanks.
